Dear John

I wonder if you saw the air raid? It was a wonderful & impressive
thing. I got out on my little balcony & saw 9 at once sailing very
slowly right up above. The guns & bombs made it a huge battle of
sounds. But the most unforgettable thing was the sound of doves &
little birds flying about in the greatest fright & distress almost
trying to come in at the windows. I hope Joan is quite strong & fit
after your lively holiday.

My love to you both
Aunt Olive

Did I tell you that my niece Ursula is to be married next month to a
Dr Percy Scott, the head of the hospital in France where she nursed.
