The Project is grateful to the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the University of Texas at Austin, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscript Collections. This letter can be dated approximately by reference to the period over which Schreiner knew John Hodgson.
1Dear Mr Hodgson
3I fear I shall not be able to go on Sunday. I’ve been laid up all
4the week. If better, I’m going out to ?lunch on Sunday, but
5shouldn’t be able to go out in the evening.
7Thanks for books Wells’ I cant read. He’s detestable on any sex
8question. The little Russian story was very strong. I will return them
9as soon as I go out
The particular book by H.G. Wells which Schreiner refers to and the 'little Russian story' in it cannot be established.
