The Project is grateful to the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the University of Texas at Austin, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscript Collections. In the absence of other information, dating this letter has followed Draznin (1992), who has done so by reference to a version in the Lafitte Letters typescript in the British Library.

Dear Havelock

I had a letter from Edith by this post. It’s beautifully written &
quite clear, but not quite herself. I wish I could see you to talk
about some things I can’t write about I could meet you nearly any
time in London if you let me know in time. I have to go to Crowborough
on Tuesday & shall not be back till Wednesday or Thursday.

If Sunday Saturday suited you I could meet you in the entrance hall at
Lyone’s big new pal place just below Charing Cross Station, (more
towards Trafalgar Sq where all the buses stop at 10 clock If I don’t
hear you I shall know you will not be there.

If Saturday won’t do could you meet me there Sunday at 1. I
wouldn’t trouble you but I want to talk about some things to you
