The Project is grateful to the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the University of Texas at Austin, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner postcard, which is part of its Manuscript Collections. The date has been derived from the postmark on this postcard and the address and addressee it was sent to are on its front. Schreiner was resident at St Mary Abbotts Terrace for a number of periods in early and late 1914 and then in late 1915.
1Thanks for note I’m so much better. I have only taken a bedroom on the
2top of floor for for £4.10.0 a month & I give 24/- for attendance The
3servant does my room & brings up my coal for that so for £6. 14. I
4have room & attendance & have only coals & food extra, & am quite free.
5 I only go out once a day so I don’t find the stairs so hard Olive
Draznin’s (1992) version of this postcard is in some respects different from our transcription.
