Dear

Your description of the place seems like paradise. But you must not, &
dare not pass Hanover without coming here. If the worst comes go to
the hotel for a couple of days. There has a strange apathy come over
the people here. Perhaps it is different in other places. Our social
condition is not happy. I’ve tried every where in the place to get
some one to take Miss Hobhouse. A year ago a dozen would have rushed
at the chance. Now no one is willing. Each one has an excuse.

I shall perhaps have to go down to Cape Town just for a couple of days
this month, near the end. Don’t pretend that is the time you have to
pass If you can only wait at Aliwal till December we shall have some
vegetables.

Good bye dear one.
