5 Your letter with the second £5 from Miss H - has arrived safely
6tonight. The Boers are supposed to be within a couple of miles of the
7village. There was a tremendous excitement here this afternoon when
8they were supposed to be approaching, men rushed to the forts on the
9koppjes & & there was enough firing for a battle. But so far the
10commando has not attacked. Four mounted Boers are said to have come
11just out side the village & 300 under Fouche to be coming on. I don’t
12feel as if they would attack this place. It is now time to put the
13
14 ^lights out. If they do come it will probably be tonight but I don’t
15expect them.
