No post came yesterday but there is I hear one this morning & I am
going down to get the letters All kinds of wild reports were flying
about yesterday that Richmond was surrounded by the commando that 1,200
men were marching into Hanover &c &c They have made loop holes all
round the wall of my yard yesterday, so they evidently mean to use
this place as a fort if the Boers come. One doesn’t know what

^to believe any more.
