Dear Friend

I’ve heard of a little cottage at Nels Port that we could get but
its unfurnished. We could have each buy a small bed, & a ta & bedding,
& buy a couple of ^three^ small tables & three chairs, & 4 cups & 4
plates &c, a few cheap knives & forks. It would not cost us much. The
farm be longs to Mr Harry Jackson, Nel Port station. He, Mr Harry
Jackson lives near by. Oh we would be so free, & we could get news by
train every day & go to Beaufort when we wanted. Write to Mr Jackson
yourself about it he is half an hour from the station. There is a nice
Dutch woman & her daughter living there, who we might get to work for
us.

Perhaps better not send my letter to your brother, or mention that a
lady in the train told me of it, as there were many people in the
train saw us talking & it would ruin them if it got out. But you might
tell him (strictly privately) about the house having been destroyed by
the volunteers & ask him what he thinks of our taking it it up. Would
we I have any chance of winning my case?

^I’ve been in bed ever since I got here with violent vomiting &
diarrhoea. I am so anxious to hear you are all right. I fear it may
have been the water or milk at Middelburg.^
