Dear Mr Unwin,

You have no doubt by this heard from Dr Brown or Mrs Schreiner again
with regard to Mr Ortmans, who has not yet paid a farthing; nor or
have we had a line from him in explanation. This matter is causing Mrs
Schreiner much worry. Will you please do all you can to secure a
settlement? Mr Ortmans deserves a rap over the knuckles if a
settlement is not soon forthcoming ^(through process of law or
otherwise)^ I will make Mr Ortmans’ behaviour kno publically known in
England.

Please note change of our address.

Yours very sincerely,
S.C. Cronwright Schreiner

Notation
The inserted comment 'through process of law or otherwise' in lines 13 and 14 is in a different ink and is a cautious afterthought. Ortmans was the editor of Cosmopolis. Schreiner had published her 'Stray Thoughts on South Africa by A Returned South African No. 3 - The Boer woman and the nineteenth century woman's question' in its April 1898 issue and these comments concern non-receipt of payment for it. Cosmopolis folded in November 1898.
