Dear Mr Unwin,

I want £1,000 for copy right of my book & I’m sure you wouldn’t
care to give that. I believe that in ten years time the book will be
selling very much better than now, but I can’t expect my pub you to
share my view. If I take a royalty I might as well take it from
Chapman as any one else.

Thanks for the book. Why did you send it to Woking. I was only there
for one day, can’t guess how it got sent there. I’m going abroad
in a couple of weeks, shall not publish anything this Autumn, except
some short things, may be.

Yours truly
Olive Schreiner

Notation
The book Schreiner is referring to regarding copyright is The Story of an African Farm, in the context of her dissatisfaction with its original publisher Chapman and the terms he was offering for new editions and printings of it. The book Unwin sent to Woking cannot be established.
