My dear old Man

Monday will be your birthday; but a very empty & sorrowful one to you,
I fear, with all the young one’s absent, not even one with you. Our
boy in the trenches will send many thoughts to you. We have lived
through strange & sad things in the course of our lives.

I was sorry to hear of Lily Orpen’s death. She was a woman with many
fine & even noble qualities; marred by a want of mental balance.

I hope next year will see you with all your young ones round you, dear.

My "big" love to you,
Olive
