Dear Laddie

I enclose a letter I have just got I have not answered it. I do not
see why because you are the High Commissioner for South Africa every
Tom, Jack, & Harry should think you are an employment agent.

But I send the letter to you that you can write to the woman if you
think fit. The writer of the letter is Mrs Sydney Webb I hope this
weather is not trying you much. It’s playing me pretty low down. I
have a theory that a close analysis would should that the vast masses
of explosions let lose in war, do infect the atmosphere at great
distances. I just can’t breath even in the top of a bus.

I wonder what you think of this reconstruction of the government. I am
afraid it will lead to tremendously increased evils at the end of the
war - & its the "after the war" I dread most for all the nations –
but I may be wrong.

Your little sister
Olive

It makes me perfectly sick to think of what might have happened to our
girl last week.
