6 I enclose a letter I have just got I have not answered it. I do not
7see why because you are the High Commissioner for South Africa every
8Tom, Jack, & Harry should think you are an employment agent.

10 But I send the letter to you that you can write to the woman if you
11think fit. The writer of the letter is Mrs Sydney Webb I hope this
12weather is not trying you much. It’s playing me pretty low down. I
13have a theory that a close analysis would should that the vast masses
14of explosions let lose in war, do infect the atmosphere at great
15distances. I just can’t breath even in the top of a bus.

17 I wonder what you think of this reconstruction of the government. I am
18afraid it will lead to tremendously increased evils at the end of the
19war - & its the "after the war" I dread most for all the nations –
20but I may be wrong.
