My dear old sister

This is your birthday, the first for so many long years without a
little gift from him.

Dear I know how your old friends will all gather about you & try to
make it a happy day for you. Thank you so much so very much for your
letter. When I think how it would be if I ever went back to Africa -
you are the person I want most to see.

I will write a real letter next week, now the fog is so terrible it
choaks one.

Yesterday all day you couldn’t see across the street, & & for three
hours in the middle of the day all the buses stopped running from the
city: it was pitch dark.

Good bye till next week
Olive
