My dear old Brother

Thank you so much for your letter. Also for sending the brandy. I was
so sorry to trouble you, but for four months the doctors have been
ordering me to take some & I couldnt get any anywhere. They say they
sell but to old customers. It has largely stopped the incessant
vomiting which has weakened me so, & decreases the angina. I take a
desert-spoon ful with each meal.

It is very nice here. Mrs Molteno has been kind beyond words. I have
my breakfast in bed, & don’t get up till 12 o clock. The air is so
lovely & pure after that choaking London filth, but I still get angina
as soon as I walk.

Do keep a fire in your office, & keep yourself warm. A person with a
weak circulation cannot resist cold; it means death to sit for hours
in a chilly place. I often think of what Ettie said to me the last
time but one I went to see her. – “If I had known it should have come
to this, I would have taken more care of myself. I always thought I
would drop suddenly.” But we can’t be sure of dropping. I am so
anxious about this winter for you.

Send me news of Ollie if you get any. I shall be staying here till the
end of this week. The Moltenos go up tomorrow but I am staying with
their nice lady Housekeeper. Its so kind of them to have me.

Good bye dear
Ol

I wish the Holenzollerns & all the Jonkers would clear out! They’ll have

^to at last they might as well do it at first. It’s a strange world –
it is will be much stranger this time next year.^
