once had was “shingles.” I woke one morning at Matjesfontein with
the whole of the small of my back, all covered lumps, burning & red
hot. Not sores at all, the skin was quite perfect, but big red lumps,
close together. All my asthma was gone, all aches, all pains, all head
aches. I was in wild exuberant health for the 8 or more days it lasted:

such a good time at Gordon’s Bay. I se

I am as you know with dear May Murray. She’s such a belovéd person,
& her husband a dear fellow. It is so nice to be near them.

I do hope Mrs Edward Greene will come in September for a week. I
should like so much some day to see your eldest brother. From what Mrs
Greene tells me he must be one of the most loveable of men. He & your
married sister are the only

^two I’ve not seen of your family. Its very nice that I am so much
drawn to both your & Betty’s families^
