Dear old Man

Im so sorry about all this trouble. Do have all your water & milk
boiled in the flat. Take care of my old brother, you don’t know what
you are to me, dear, the last family I have in the world. Its the
awful solitariness of age when you are childless that is so terrible.
The old passes away.

I’ve just got a letter from poor Mrs Liddle to say they have news
her son-in-law Captain Coultard is lying wounded at Bologne: & his
wife is lying ill here expecting a little baby, & cant go to him.
Especially when one lives alone as I do, & must think continually life
seems a nightmare.

Good bye dear
