6 I have just got Miss Molteno’s letter telling me of your brother’s
7death. It seems to me so beautiful he should have died out in the open.
8 I’m so glad you saw him again.

10 It is such a strange comfort to one to feel years of life together on
11Earth ^without seeing each other^, did not preceed the last separation.
12I’m so glad they took him home to Harston. It will be so sweet to
13you to think of his lying there by your mother. I wonder what he died
14of; I suppose the heart failed.

16 I am so glad to hear Hellen is better. What has she been suffering
17from? I wonder if coming out to Africa might not do her good.

19 My chest has been bad lately; but I’ve held out. Parliament breaks
20up this week. I am going to Matjesfontein for a few days as Cron wants
21to have a holiday at Muizenberg & I can’t stay longer, so I’ll
22wait at Matjesfontein till he comes.

25You weren’t with him just at the end but you had to be with Hellen.

27 I went to see dear Miss de Wet yesterday. She is bearing up so
28wonderfully. It is strange to see her sitting there alone in old rooms.
