My darling Friend

I got your wire saying you were off to Kennilworth. I wonder if you
are going to England at once, or whether it is to see your brother off
that you are going. Perhaps I shall hear tomorrow.

I return Miss Greenes letter. I am so very thankful all was as it was.
Not only that the end was so beautiful & painless, but that her mother
not knowing the end was come could not have been specially longing to
see her once more. Surely that is a most beautiful death! If anything
can console one for the going of ones beloveds, it is that they went
so suddenly & painlessly that the great shadow hardly seemed to fall
on them before it enfolded them.

I am stronger & am getting the house quite

^into order at last. The weather here is much better; the cold is very
bitter but drier than I have ever known it here in winter before. The
farmers are complaining much of the drought I wonder whether Ellen
Greene will come out here. Let me know when you hear from her. I hope
going to Cape Town will not pull you down again. ^
