Dear Fan

Don’t forget to send me the group of you & the children. I would
love so to have them. Life is so dull here without books or newspapers
or friends, that one values all kinds of little things one wouldn’t
care for so much otherwise.

//Cron gets plenty to do, but not so much pay as work, but I am so
thankful he has the work to interest him. There is no news to give you
of ourselves, I cook & wash pots & clean the floor, & find the joy of
life in my two meerkats & dogs.

The dark cold winter is upon us. You too seem to have been having bad
weather, as there is a report here that some ships are wrecked in
Table Bay.

Much love to you all dear. Did you see Johnnie Smuts when he passed
through Cape Town the other day.

Love to you all. I wish I could see you all; dear old Ollie with his
jolly laugh.

We are going though a very bad time in this little village. There is
so much illness & every one is depressed & sad. How does Mother keep
up? I am rather dreading the winter for her.
