3 Dear Friend
4
5 I think a great fight is going on today near Kimberley. I cannot say
6whether right will win one, but it will one day, & that day not 15 or
720 years ahead.
8
9 I have been up for the last ten nights with want of breath, but got
10out the day before yesterday & went & sat on the rocks at Sea Point
11where we sat once long ago.
12
13 The Bay is full of great ships here as it has never been in the memory
14of man. One remembers the Spanish Armada. I passed your brother
15Charles’s wife at the station. Such a sweet sensitive, sympathetic
16face. One would like to save her from all pain & sorrow through life.
17
18^I’m looking forward so much to your coming next month. ^

21 I feel quite sure your brother James was absolutely correct as to what
22the Governor said. He has said things on the same line but much
23stronger to friends of mine.
