My dear Friend

I’m so sorry you are not coming now. I always need you. Cron only
told me the day before he left that you had written to him asking
whether I was well enough to see you. I always feel you are the one
person I should like to have near me if I were very ill or dying. I
met ^Miss ?Flower^ & Mrs Stratton in the street the other day with both
looking very bright.

Cron has gone to Cradock for ten days to the show. He will be back
early next week. Its not at all likely, but it’s just possible I
might take advantage of the excursion tickets at the end of this month
& run down to Port Elizabeth for three days. Could you get me an airy
room near you for the two or three days I should be there. I don’t
think it will come to anything but sometimes I feel I shall never be
able to do anything again till I get a little change of air & scene.

Do you know there is a liberal anti-Capitalist paper to be started in
Cape Town, a weekly? Cartwright, who was editor to the Kimberly paper
till Mr Rhodes bought it a few weeks ago, is going to start it. Do
subscribe to it. ^It is only 1d a number.^ If you took two or three
copies a week you might give them away. Very good folk are going to
write for it. There is not one paper now not in Rhodes hands. Do you
know that he has bought the Cape Register? I hope this paper will be
very good. Cron is going to write for it. I wish I could. What is that
Hotel on the mountains like, th where you & Miss Green went? I want
How high is it above the sea? I’d like to get on the top of the
highest mountain in the world.
