4 Dear Fan
5
6 Thanks very much for the lovely eggs. I’ve just had one beaten up.
7They came perfectly: only three cracked, but none broken. Eggs are
8still very scarce & will be till the warm weather comes. It is still
9beautifully cold, but I fear very soon the heat will be upon us.
10
11 Cron is out playing golf or would send greetings. The big match
12between De Aar Victoria West, Middelberg & Richmond comes off tomorrow,
13 & he is one of the 4 de Aar men chosen to play in it. Richmond or
14Middelberg are likely to beat as they have each got one splendid man.
15I like to think of you all happy together. My dream when I was young
16was to have 12 children, but it has all turned out very differently.
17There is a woman here I always envy so she has 7 beautiful daughters &
183 sons all at home; but the eldest son is turning out very badly –
19the only tragedy in having children.
20
21 I hope the young ones trot the old man out to golf sometimes. Everyone
22writes me both Ol & Ursie are looking so fit.
23
24 Good bye dear. It was sweet of you to send me the eggs.
25 Olive
26
27 How is Kitty. I often think of her.
