4 I wonder what you think of the way matters are going? It doesn’t
5seem to me it will ever be a question of dividing up Germany even if
6the war goes on four years. And can England stand the financial strain
7so long? But of course it is always the unforseen that happens. Did
8you see the Zeppelins in London? We hear such wonderful accounts here.
9A man who came from London the day after said, "half London" was
10destroyed. But a friend who went up this week writes that "There’s
11enough left to go on with." Golders Green and Hendon seem to have had
12a good many bombs - no doubt they are making for the air-ship works at
13Hendon! One report says all Houndsditch has been destroyed and another
14says "all Broad Street". One really believes nothing any more.
16 I am still staying with my dear friends the Parkers, as happy as it
17could be possible to be anywhere while there is war. I am better than
18I’ve been for long, and am writing hard. This part of England is so
19beautiful to me and the air so stimulating.
