Dear Friend, I hear there have been great defeats of the British, two
companies & two guns taken beyond Pretoria & de Wet is said to have
come South & defeated the Imperial Light Horse. But it may all be
untrue. A little Russian Jews who is staying here, tells me he was
told this by a soldier in the train who was wounded by de Wet three
days ago. I have heard it from anot [papertorn] source. Any how, it will
not get into the papers whether true or false.

The weather here is heavenly. It rained here last night, & today is
bitter cold & fresh; so full of life.
