Dear Mrs Solly

We are going to have another meeting on the 27th for Mrs Brown to read
her little paper again. We shall try not to have any women there who
were at the last reading at Mrs WP Schreiner’s.

I had a long talk this afternoon with Mrs A de Villiers the wife of
the Advocate. She is the first woman in South Africa who ever did
great things at an exam (she took the Porter Scholarship of £300 a
year for three years & went to Cambridge to study). She is an English
woman, was a Miss Drummond, & all her relations were on the English
side in the war; but she was a pro-Boer. Her husband is in the son a
Dutch Church Minister, & his parents were known & respected respe
every-where among the Dutch. If she would become a vice-president it
would be splendid. She’s liked by every one Dutch & English who know
her. She says she is too young, only just 30, & not well enough know,
but she is really much the most remarkable woman we have in our
society.

Write me what you think of this. We have not yet quite fixed up about
the meeting at Mrs Griffiths.

Yours ever
Olive Schreiner
