Dear Laddie

I wanted to run down last night to wish you the best that may be for
this coming years But I wasn’t up to it. I bring you a tiny book of
war poems, the writer is a friend of Ed Carpenters. He has just been
back for ^to^ the front & wounded for the second time He is still in
hospital but getting on all right. It goes to my heart dear to see you
looking so tired & worn, but what else can we expect in this climate
under these conditions. When I think of what you looked like when you
came back from Nauheim – you didn’t look forty! The best I can
wish for you is that the boy Ol comes back safe this year.

Your small sister who loves you much more than you know
Ol.
