Dear Mrs Murray

I am so anxious to meet your brother Percy & hear a little about Natal
affairs. The train only stops here ten minutes. I wonder whether it
would be possible for him to break his journey for a few hours. If he
came by the morning train & went on in the evening, or better still if
he came by the evening train l & slept the night here & went on the
next morning we could have a nice long chat. The Hotel here is very
good now: excellent food & clean rooms. Very good new people have
taken it over. I’m sorry I can’t ask him to stay with us, but our
house is still only walls, the roof has yet to come on. Of course I
know it may not be possible for him to stay but we should both so much
enjoy it if he could. unreadable I have written to Miss Colenso but
have had no answer. I am very doubtful as to my letters reaching her.
I have had experience of Martial Law tactics, which are carried on
even when there is no martial law!! I’ve had a delightful long
letter from Betty. She seems enjoying May’s companionship much; &
I’m sure its good for all Cape women to get out of the narrow little
cape world for a few years. I’m so glad to hear your brother
Percy’s wife is better. She’s a woman who has a curious attraction
for me: I always wish we could get really to know each other. But it
takes long to get close to close to Scotch people, though they are
worth it when you do.

Do let your brother know what a great pleasure it would be to us if we
could see him.

Yours ever
Olive Schreiner
