Notation
What Ellis's 'rel. pn' was that Schreiner had not read cannot be established. The paper Schreiner refers to was E. Ray Lankester's (1885) presentation to the Men and Women's Club. Draznin's (1992) version of this letter is in some respects different from our transcription.
