Dear Fan,

Thanks so much for your letter. It was wonderful to see the dear old
handwriting again!!

We shall arrive in town on Sunday afternoon the 12th by mail train. We
are going to a new boarding house, also in Tamboer’s Kloof but a
little higher up, which is cheaper than the old one. I may be as free
from asthma there. You will have no excuse for not coming to see me
now, because the train passes my very door step. You get in at the
station & haven’t to walk a step to my front door. The address is 36
Mileham
36 Brownlow Rd
Tamboer’s Kloof

Its the very highest street that the train goes to. My dear old
friends the Browns may come & spend the first week in April with us
there, but otherwise I shall be all alone now the Purcells have left.
It is bitterly cold here to-day. We fear a frost which will kill off
what little there is in the gardens. No person who has not lived
through a three years drought in the karroo can have any idea how
awful it is. A neighbour gave me a slice of spanspek today, the first
fruit I have eaten this year except a little box of fruit Isie
Smuts’
mother sent from Stellenbosch!

I suppose you will still be down at St James till the end of March.
Cron tells me Dot thinks of taking two years to her B.A. I am so glad
she is going on.

As I write the doctor has knocked at the door to say there is a bad
case of diptheria, & the school must be closed tomorrow.

I am bringing two dogs & five meerkats down. Doesn’t any body want 2
young meerkats! – not a boy, of course, unless he’s a very
exceptional boy like Ollie! Good bye dear old sis
