My dear Friend

I do wish you weren’t wasting all your time in London. Couldn’t
you go off & have a glorious time in Germany & Switzerland first &
Alice join you later to go to Greece. If one only knows how one can
travel about so delightfully & yet so cheaply in Germany. Oh if I had
your chance, wouldn’t I take it! Art & all things look so much more
beautiful out of the dull foggy air of England! Friends close friends,
& the constant contact with them is the only thing that makes life
bearable there: in other countries one can be quite joyful quite alone.

All goes just as ever here. Cron returned from Cape Town last Monday,
& leave for de Aar next Tuesday for a few days as he has a big sale
there. I am making Gobalie such a good

^little boy: he improves every day. The meerkats & Ollie are well. Yes
things are bad here in the business way & in the Cape Colony they will never
be what they were again, never! The trade is all going north & will
continue to do so. The Cape Colony has seen its palmyest days. Of
course is the drought really passes things will be a little better
this year, but not much. In the Transvaal & north of course things
will develop. ^

My dearest love to you both.
