6 Your post card made me so glad today. I hope Caledon will go on being
7so restful & good for you. Are you at the Sanatorium or at a private
8place? Every one who has been to Caledon seems to like it.

10 We are having weather a little warmer here. Heavy frosts every night,
11but not such bitter cold winds.

13 I send you such a nice letter I got from ?Vaeorena’s wife. You must
14go & see some of my friends when you go to England. I know you will
15like to see some of them so much. Elli’s wife Miss Greene will
16simply delight in. Life seems much easier here since I have accepted I
17people have forgotten all about the war & its lessons; & one doesn’t
18expect the old relations with them a bit. There come time in life when
19you must cut out bits of yourself & let them die. Of course you carry
20a bit of dead matter about with you ever after & it makes one get a
21bit heavy as life ^time^ passes, but its the only way. The bad thing is
22that what one has once had to kill never back. I am now quite ready
23for "conciliation:" no one will ever be troubled by my caring too much
24for South African politics or matters again. unreadable Mrs unreadable
25is a far unreadable. It is amusing to look on, but the game is not a
26game that has any great interest for me You must try & die too that
27way, or you can’t keep on living in South Africa. I fancy part of
28Miss Greene’s longing for England springs from something the same
29feeling.

31 I am so glad the Japs are doing well so far, as it may help to break
32up the Russian government & set the Russians free; but I fear Russia
33may yet have some successes.
