Your letter with the second £5 from Miss H - has arrived safely
tonight. The Boers are supposed to be within a couple of miles of the
village. There was a tremendous excitement here this afternoon when
they were supposed to be approaching, men rushed to the forts on the
koppjes & & there was enough firing for a battle. But so far the
commando has not attacked. Four mounted Boers are said to have come
just out side the village & 300 under Fouche to be coming on. I don’t
feel as if they would attack this place. It is now time to put the

^lights out. If they do come it will probably be tonight but I don’t
expect them.
