6 Dear Laddie,

8 I found the wicked old bird flown when I got here! I am so afraid you
9are heat, though as they’ve had rain at Bloemfontein it will not be
10like de Aar. I do hope you will not have to go on to Pretoria where
11the heat is prostrating.

13 Our girl went off to her first days exam= this morning. She looked
14awfully played out on Friday when I get here; but like a good horse,
15her spirits are rising as the starting time comes. Minnie de Villiers
16took us for a motor drive to Fishhoek yesterday afternoon & we start
17sat on the back & had a good sea blow, & Dot looked splendid when we
18got back.

20 The house here seems awfully empty with out the old man, & Pat is
21manifestly seeking for him.
