The Project is grateful to Manuscripts and Archives, University of Cape Town, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscripts and Archives Collections. The date of this letter is derived from the postmark on an attached envelope, which also provides the address it was sent to. Schreiner was resident at Porchester Place from early April 1917 until August 1920, when she left Britain for South Africa.
Dear Mrs Murray

Will you please send the enclosed letter on to Margaret. I don’t
know her address in East Africa, & Betty is away spending some days
with May in Wales.

I have been so grieved to hear you & Dr Murray were both so unwell.

Betty seemed to think there is some chance of your coming to to
England, but May in a note I got from her yesterday seems to think not.

Betty is bearing Miss Greene’s death wonderfully - but somehow
though she bears up so bravely I feel she is changed. It has been an
awful blow.

Good bye dear Mrs Murray Perhaps I shall see you in Africa some day,
but I cant realize I shall ever get there.
