5Thank you for your dear letter. My brother’s death has been the
6hardest blow I have ever had in my life. It seems to have ended
7everything for me.

9I am so sorry to hear from Betty that John has been so seriously ill.
10She is staying down with Miss Greene in Cornwall, but has come up for
11a few days & is staying here She goes back on Monday.

13My sister-in-law & Dot & Ursula & her husband & baby are going out to
14the Cape in a few weeks time. I hope you will get to know Ursula, I
15think you will like her. She is such a devoted little mother. I have
16never seen anyone take such a joy in her baby. Her husband is a very
17clever nose & throat & ear specialist, & I think ought to do well in
18Cape Town as we have not many specialists there.

20Your darling Lucy is up at Glen ?Lion. I do love her so; she’s so
21splendidly sincere & open, & so lovely physically. I wish I could have
22seen more of her. Sometimes she has such a look of you.

27How much trouble our dear Anna Purcell has had to go through lately. I
28am distressed to hear of her husbands illness. I long oh, how I long
29to see you all again.
