My dear Lucy

It seems so long since we had any news from the Cape. Our mail as you
will have heard went down in a Japanese ship that was lost.

Betty & Miss Greene have gone today to see Barkley & his wife & new
child in the country Alice Greene is just wonderful, she looks so
young & well & happy. Betty as I told you looks 15 years younger than
when she first landed.

Alice I have seen very little of since she came, but Betty & I are
much together. We make expeditions on the tops of omnibuses &
sometimes go to picture shows!! One has to try to do something or one
would break down utterly under the nightmare horror of this war.

We had an air raid ^here^ yesterday in which the papers say there were
about 500 killed & wounded – but what a small matter that seems to
the thousands that are falling all over Europe of all races.

My sister in law got some beautiful roses from Mrs Gredham Greathead
today. I’ve not seen or heard from her for a long time.

^Good bye dear beautiful soul. I hope you are keeping well^
