Dear Mrs Murray,

I have just said good bye to George, who has gone off to the station
with May after being here for only three hours. He does look so
beautiful & pure & sweet. People talk about sending all the young boys
off, as if it were nothing what happened to them. But it is just these
young boys that wring my heart; they haven’t even drunk of life. It
would be much better if we who were older could go. We have lived. I
gave him Olivers address as perhaps he may be somewhere near him in
France. It is so hard you should have to be so far away from him; but
you have your other two in British West; though they are almost as far
from you as he is. I am so glad May saw him if even for this moment. I
am hoping the Cape letters will come today, & we shall have news of
you all. I am so interested in Kathleen farming.

Did I tell you how well Emily Hobhouse is now? You would not know her.
She is still in Holland working at the womans permanent peace
committee. Dr Jacobs has gone to America on peace work but will be
back the end of this month in Holland

Good bye: my love to you
