7 I got here yesterday at four. It is beautiful to see green grass &
8trees again Hanover is quite a desert now, with nothing but clouds of
9sand wheeling over the grey earth. Cron did not come as he has his
10cricket concert tonight. Tomorrow is Oom Paul’s funeral. This
11morning I went down to the hall where the body lies in state. It is
12the most splendid spectical I have ever seen it quite over powered me.
13Thousands & thousands will be here tomorrow. I’ll w try to write an
14account of the whole thing & send it you.

16 Yesterday in Johannesburg I fainted in the train. None of the porters
17would carry my luggage & I had to carry it in myself I suppose the
18weight was too much. I am very very well today. Have rested so
19splendidly & got no asthma. I’ll write a long letter either here or
20when
21
22^I get home next week. I’ll leave this as soon as the trains are
23empty enough. I hear Miss Hobhouse is coming out again. I saw de la
24Rey today. De Wet is expected but has not turned up. I wonder if there
25is a little pull between the Freestate & Transvaal. But he may turn up
26yet. ^
