Dear Mrs Molteno

Rather late in the day I am writing to tell you how sorry I was I
couldn’t come to lunch to see more of you all. I meant to leave
before Friday, but afterwards stayed to hear the debate.

Please remember me very kindly to your mother & sister I should like
to have seen more of you all.

Miss Greene & Miss Molteno left on Wednesday for Port Elizabeth on
Wednesday & I am alone as a sparrow upon a house top.

Wasn’t dear old Merriman’s speech good. I wish we could add on
fifty years to his life.
