4 My dear Fan

6 I shall probably leave this for Cape Town on the 24th or 25th of this
7month. If the weather is fine I may be able to stay some days, but I
8may only be one day or two so please come soon to see me. It’s
9tremendously hot here, hotter than I’ve ever known it since I came
10to Hanover so it must end in big thunderstorms & rain I think. Cron is
11standing for Parliament as you will have seen in the papers. Old ^Mr^
12Venter is opposing him as South African candidate. The Hanover
13delegates are instructed to vote for Cron, the Philip’s town &
14Petrusville vote for Venter & the three Colesburg delegates will
15decide the matter. They meet next Wednesday. I have an increasing
16horror of politics, ^as they shut themselves in parliament^, & for my
17self would rather he did not stand, but he thinks he can be useful &
18each soul must do as it feels right. It tells very heavily against
19Cron of course that he is an Englishman. If he goes to parliament I
20shall be more lonely than ever up here & you will have to come & visit me.
