Dear Friend

I hope you are off to Caledon soon. I fancy the politicians will be
rather relieved at your brother Charley’s going. If they were going
to play up to Rhodes he is not the man to help them. I fancy he is
like Cron too straightforward & simple of soul to be a politician.
"Children, how, hardly shall a politician enter into the Kingdom of
God."

Well there are the good brave people left to us still. As for Innes &
my brother it breaks my heart to think of them, & I shall think no
better of the other side if they coquette with Rhodes & Sievewright.
Yes your brother Jim has been splendidly outspoken. Why on earth men
should always beat about the bush when they get into parliament I
don’t see.

Isn’t that a wretched lie about my weeping over Milner. If I wept at
all, it would be to think that he ever set foot in this country.

Good bye. Much love to you both.

I forget if I told you yesterday about all our things being burnt up &
destroyed in Kimberley. Even my little baby’s portrait & hair & all
the things I can never get back. But some how I don’t seem to care
much. unreadable
