I didn’t go to Paardekraal as I was not feeling fit enough.

Many thanks for South African News, some one is going to send it
direct from Cape Town in future. The S.A. News does & must restrain
itself! When the lives of thousands of human creatures are in the
balance every word becomes of solemn importance. I shall be so glad
when I know you are resting a bit.

I shall form my final opinion of Milner when I hear what he sent home
after the conference. I have a feeling that he has changed his views:
if he has not, then it is probably war, & war at once. I fear things
will not be settled enough for you to find a holiday here do you good
& fit you for the work you must do: but it would be splendid if you
could come I think there will not be

^war for another 3 weeks if it does come. That it will have to come
some day unless Rhodes dies soon I feel little doubt, but every year
we put it off is something gained. ^
