Dear Will,

It was very good to get to know your wife & children. They are more to
me that I could have dreamed they would be. I am longing for news of
them which tomorrow will perhaps bring me, & of you.

I have been ill but am better since I got here. That glimpse of you
served only to awaken a desire which it may be is not to be satisfied.
if I may be gone before you return if you are to be away six months.
Robert Hemming brought me up here. He has been very kind to me so has
every one. It has been very good to be among them all.

I hope your trip is doing you. That it may do so is my only
consolation at not seeing more of you. I have looked forward for years
to having some talks with you.

I have a curious draw at my heart to those two children in town when I
realize they are yours, but I think I should get to value them almost
as much for their mother’s sake. She is very native to me.

The dear old sister Het is to be here on Tuesday. It will be a
terrible disappointment to her & me if I cannot live at Vis-chhoek.

Good bye. I don’t know if this will ever find you. You won’t lose
anything if it doesn’t.
