Dear Friend,

When you’ve corrected the MS please give them to Cron. I want to
send one to America by next week. I ought to ^have^ sent it this, but
couldn’t write. My heart gets so bad as soon as I try to write
anything difficult.

My darling old husband wanted to come up to me, but I’d rather
he’d stay in town, till he’s done what he has to do there.

Y You know I feel more & more sure that when the settlement comes it
will be found that England will not get the Transvaal gold. That all
rights have been given away to France &c, & that it will be hands off.
The poor Transvaal may come off badly between the powers, but is not
who will gain by her greed & cruelty. They have shot ?Cardena for
wanting to Kidnap Roberts. So we the mightiest & most Christian Nation
on earth spend our money in tempting men that we may shoot them. I
have more contempt for England & the English people today than I have
for a clod of filth in the streets. Other nations have done these
things but no other nation has bragged of its virtue & Christianity as
England has done.

Good bye. It is always a comfort & joy to me to think of you.
Olive

^If I don’t get really better here I shall perhaps go to Hanover or
Middelburg in a week’s time. But address here. NB Don’t trouble to
send the MS to Cron I’ll send you the address in a day or two.^
