Dear Fan

I hope all has gone well with May. It may be she was quite out in her
count – people often are with a first child. It must be an anxious
time for her mother. When Will wrote he was coming I was just going to
write & ask you if you would not come as far as de Aar & stay with me
while they went on; but I felt sure after I got you letter you would
feel you must go to be with Mrs ?Devenish.

It was fine having the two here. If you had been here too I’ve a
nice little stretcher I could have put for Ol Boy in the study. I’m
so glad it was nice weather while yesterday & today are very hot. The
first real summer weather we’ve had. I couldn’t sleep last night
so at 5 I was out watering in the garden, At six I made so tea for old
man Cron & he got up. By eight o’clock I had nearly all the garden
watered. I have to do my gardening in the early morning in the summer
as I can’t go out in the heat. I would very much like to have some
of those nice little vegetable marrow seeds, dear. I got a note from
Ursie this morning, so happy in Holland but says its very flat & she
longs for mountains. So do I, at de Aar!

I wish Bill was up here with the other young Barristers. Will Stuart
is here & told Cron he was to be married in two months – but I’ve
 not seem him yet.

Good bye dear. I shall think of you next Wednesday. It will be hard to
 part with your boy
