3 PS I ought to have remembered the date of your birthday because it was
4in October 1899 sooner after we got to Cape Town, when we couldn’t get
5through to the Transvaal & you gave us such a dear warm welcome when
6we turned up pennyless wanderers at Lyndall. Your kindness to me then
7is one of the things I can never forget, & I seem never able to do
8anything for you in return to show how much I felt it.

10 Miss Brackenbury writes it is much warmer & drier in London than here.
