Dear Will

They did not give me your letter when I came in, so I went out by my
little all alone & an oyster & brown bread dinner at Oppenrodes in
Piccadilly just opposite Scotts. When I got back from the dinner, I
saw your note in their office, they didn’t give it me even then (&
said there was nothing for me till I pointed it out!) & I was so sorry
to have missed you dear. It was a disappointment.

I went to Hampstead to in the morning & found saw some very cheap
clean little rooms – the only draw back is that they are a stiff
climb from where the bus stops & there are no cabs or taxis I shall
not be so utterly alone there as I am here as my dear friend Dolly
Radford
lives only two streets off & I could often go to see her. I
had lunch with her yesterday. She sent her kind remembrances to you.
She has memories of a walk with you & Juta & Eleanor Marx along some
river. She has a most charming & beautiful daughter who writes verse
very charmingly, & another daughter who is an artist, & her only boy
has gone as a Doctor to the front.

I have been allowed by the doctor to go & see Adela for half an hour
this morning. I am full of joy, to think I shall see her again.
Nothing really matters on Earth, but love & sympathy – hate is the
disease which grows as a fungus on life, ^national or personal.^

Good bye dear I hope you are taking great care about what you eat. I
find the great thing is to eat anything that is well cooked & good in
small quantities
