6Dear I do long so that you & Ursula were here. The weather is so
7lovely, the sea so lovely & blue; its like the finest Cape weather. I
8can’t bear to think of your leaving on the 17th. How is one to bear
9all the anxiety till one hears you have got to Africa safe. If Ol is
10at Shorncliff it is quite close. I can see the camp from my balcony.
11He would just have to walk down the hill & take a 2d train motor bus,
12& be here in a few minutes. There is a lovely golf course up near the
13station to which is finer & larger than the one near the Hotel –
14though running along the sea side that is nice, & there are nice motor
15buses every ten minutes between this & Folkestone. I have two very
16nice rooms. The Hotel is 11/- a day at this time of year, but of
17course rooms come much cheaper. I don’t know if the food at the
18Hotel is good, but the rooms are splendid. They have built on 50 more
19rooms this year, & now the hotel has only 40 people in it instead of
20200.

22Good bye dear. I’ve not heard from Cron or any one. His last to me
23was dated the 20th of Aug: a month & ten days ago. The anxiety is hard
24to bear. They are billeting officers & men on the people in Hythe –
25which they much resent. An unknown woman in the bus poured out her
26woes to me – “you wouldn’t like it yourself,” she said, “if
27you had a nice house to have four or five people forced on you, & you
28never know what sort!” I wish they’d billet Ol in this house.
29Every one would be glad to have him when once they’d seen him!

31Good bye.

34There are such lovely excursions from this in the motor buses.

36^I am as blissful here as its possible to be anywhere without news from
37the Cape.^
