Dear Laddie

Thank you so much, but Cron says he can’t come down now; he may
perhaps for a week at Xmas. His leg is much better. For two weeks
he’s been dieting strictly, on stewed fruit, vegetable soup rice &
salads from our garden made with eggs & powdered ?bread, & no meat of
any kind, & its wonderful how the swelling has disappeared. I thought
he was going to have an awful attack of gout like he had 12 years ago.
He is out this afternoon arranging about some changes in the golf
course. Did Fan tell the you that he won the prize for the lowest
score in the last 6 months. The old man’s no end pleased at it
though he doesn’t say much!! I’m so glad to hear you are really
playing a bit.

I gave Cron your message & he says – I’m to tell you you are not
going to take a mean advantage of him with his game leg – wait till
he comes at Xmas!

I had a wire from my friend Kallenbach asking me to meet Gandhi at the
station tomorrow as they pass here. I should have liked a long talk
with Gandhi, but I fear they’ll only stop a few minutes. I shall
however try to go down.

I’ve never managed my letter to Grey yet, I’m so dead stupid!

Thanks dear, for wishing to have us. I expect I’ll come trailing up
some time before Xmas when the strain here gets too great, & I do hope
Cron will come for a few days at Xmas. Stick to the golf as close as
you can. I’m sure it will mean much to your health.

Thy small stupid sister
