3 The enclosed from Miss Colenso to me may interest you. I am so glad
4she thought Will looking better. I am so anxious about the excitement
5of the trial for him; but they say Greytown is cooler than Maritzburg.
6I wish, oh how I wish, I was with you in Cape Town, but I can’t leave
7my old man while it’s at all possible for me to stay on here.

9 The heat & dust are terrible now but they will be much worse later.

11 Drop me a line when you return Miss C’s letter.

13 I suppose our girl is very busy now she has got back to College. I got
14a note from her from Madeira on her way home.

16 Good bye, dear. It’s sad being a woman always sitting at home

18^& waiting while those we love go out into the world. There is one
19beautiful thing with daughters, that their hearts always come nearer &
20nearer to their mother’s as they grow older, & the real weight of
21woman’s lot begins to fall in on them, & they know all it means. ^
